With a history spanning over 100 years, Revolution Print is one of Australia’s oldest and most modern printing names. Purchased by the current owner before engaging with Progress Accounting, the business has undergone a significant transformation. With a focus on cutting-edge technology, lean processes, and a strong people-first culture, Revolution Print has redefined itself as one of the most innovative and “new age” printers in the country.
The Challenge
For a business steeped in history yet determined to be at the forefront of technology, the challenge was twofold: keep pace with rapid change while ensuring financial decisions supported sustainable growth. With major investments in plant and equipment, a highly skilled workforce, and multiple operational sites, Revolution Print required more than basic compliance support.
The owner sought responsive, honest advisors who would understand his industry and speak their minds. He surrounded himself with specialists — a lean expert, a HR and cultural consultant, and Progress Accounting for financial strategy and accountability.
The Transformation
From the outset, our role with Revolution Print has been an intensive advisory partnership. Monthly business advisory sessions were designed to layer strategic and operational improvements over time, ensuring each stage of development built upon solid foundations.
Our work has included:
- Budgeting and reporting – providing clarity on financial performance and aligning reporting with strategic goals.
- Plant and equipment replacement schedules – mapping out future requirements and planning cash flow for major upgrades.
- Expansion advisory – acting as a sounding board for business growth, new equipment purchases, and expansion into new opportunities.
- Wealth building strategies – ensuring that while the business grows, the owner is also building personal financial independence from the enterprise.
Each month has had a distinct focus — from “clean-up” work on superannuation and insurance, to modelling premises strategies, enhancing reporting systems, analysing operations across multiple sites, and setting financial and people-based targets. By mid-year, we were able to drill into growth strategies, staff planning, and capacity modelling. Later sessions focused on personal wealth, debt reduction, and even future succession options such as equity sell-down.
Progress Accounting’s Role
Our ongoing role has been:
- Accountability partner – keeping momentum through structured monthly reviews.
- Strategic advisor – guiding decisions on investment, staffing, and growth.
- Financial architect – designing models for break-even, cash flow, and long-term wealth creation.
- Industry ally – providing tailored advice that reflects the realities of a fast-moving, competitive industry.
The Outcome
Revolution Print now operates as a future-ready business that combines more than a century of history with the agility of a modern start-up. With a clear equipment replacement schedule, robust reporting, and a strong strategic plan, the company is positioned for sustainable growth. Just as importantly, the owner has a pathway towards long-term wealth and eventual succession, ensuring both the business and his family’s financial future are secure.
